A Thrifting Guide

by Gisell Carmona

Thrifting is always good for being able to avoid fast fashion. With the coronavirus pandemic, it’s obvious many of us haven’t been able to go thrifting. Yet there are ways you can enjoy thrifting safely especially during this time. Locally in the Humboldt area, there are many thrift stores open once again following safety measures to keep us safe. Thrift stores such as Angels of Hope, The Hospice shop, and Eco-groovy deals located in Arcata provide customers with hand sanitizer and require customers to remain 6 feet apart. Other options available would be thrifting online although not the same there are great shops. Those would include ThredUp, Poshmark, Depop, and Mercari to name a few. Furthermore whether in person or online here are some safety steps you can take.

Safety steps:

  1. Wear a mask at all times.
  2. Carry hand sanitizer. (most stores provide some at the entrance)
  3. Apply hand sanitizer before and after leaving.
  4. Bring your own tote.
  5. Wash/disinfect items including your tote used.

Happy thrifting!
