Remember it’s not you, it’s capitalism!

As millennials are reaching for their third recession in their twenty old something life, America is still more concerned for the economic market than individual lives. America has coexisted with COVID19 instead of defeating it, money seems to be coming up short for millions of individuals across the nation. The richer keep getting rich and the poor are getting poorer. It is important to note that racism is embedded in capitalism and cannot be separated. People are still confused in what counts as racist it does not have to be a direct slur. It is as simple as the differences in how and where people live. For example, BIPOC mostly living in polluted neighborhoods, schools that have underfunding, factories near their communities are all indicators of a racist system in place in this country.

Capitalism has fueled the flame for corporations to exploit the Earth’s natural resources to fill their pockets with more money than they know what to do with. Remember you are not a machine and deserve a break. You are not lazy if work is not done, the system put in place is very ableist and we have not had the conversation that we have not included many voices of the negatives of capitalism. As Gillan writes “in this life your purpose is not dependent on your productivity, on how much labor you can perform. You do not have to be useful. You do not exist to be used.”

Great read to unlearn what is “productive“!
