October Self-Care Ideas

Being a student during these strange times can be stressful and overwhelming. It is important to set aside some time to recharge, take care of yourself, and have a little fun! Here are some self-care ideas for the month of October ?
Get cozy and unwind
Take a warm shower or bath
- To help with muscle relaxation, add in some Epsom salts or CBD oil
- Make an aromatic tea bath by adding in dried herbs like lavender, roses, chamomile, etc.
- Hang up fresh eucalyptus on your shower head
- Light up some candles, incense, wax melters, or set up an essential oils diffuser
- Play some music
- Exfoliate
- Take your time to moisturize afterward
Face masks or do your skincare routine
Meditate
- PHE has been hosting Meditation with Sasha (free weekly guided meditation sessions for HSU students)

Therapy
- CAPS (a free counseling service for HSU students operating virtually)
- They offer individual therapy sessions, consultations, crisis services, and groups

Yoga or a quick workout
- Check out Youtube & find the right video for you
Journal/Draw/Make a Vision Board/Plan
- Take a moment to write down how your week went, your feelings, or goals
- Tap into your creative side and create art in any way that you like
- Draw out, print, or cut and paste pictures to form your vision board for the month of October (can be physical or made online)
- October aesthetic, costume inspiration, movie lists, favorite quotes, important dates, goals
Reconnect with nature
- Take a walk or hike with your pet
- Watch the sunrise or sunset
- Go to the forest, marsh, beach, or favorite outdoor place
- Take your shoes off and be barefoot for a while
- Do yoga, meditate, journal outside
- Have a picnic or bonfire
- Garden
- Don’t forget to wear sunscreen, hydrate, wear a sweater, or bring a blanket depending on the weather
- Remember to still follow social distancing rules and bring your mask + hand sanitizer
Put on some comfy pajamas & fuzzy socks
- Snuggle up with a loved one (pet, person, stuffed animal)
Sleep
- Sleep is very important!
- Take a day to catch up on sleep
- Go to bed early or sleep-in
- Take a nap
In the mood for something spooky?
Decorate your home or room if you haven’t already!
Paint your nails
- Perhaps black or a spooky/creative Halloween design?
Dress Up or Makeup
- Dress up as your favorite Halloween characters, maybe find a way to incorporate them into an everyday look
- Visit Spirit Halloween, local stores, or thrift shops
- Make your own costume
- Play around with some makeup or special fx to create a cool look, the options are limitless!

Watch your favorite Fall/Halloween movies or shows

- Grab a blanket and your favorite snacks

Carve a pumpkin!
Host a session in which you tell scary stories with your friends or family
Scary good food:

- Try out a flavored coffee, spiced tea, or other warm drinks
- Try a pumpkin, cinnamon, or any fall-flavored baked good like pie, muffin, or bread
Drink some warm apple cider or hot chocolate
Decorate some caramel, chocolate, or chamoy apples
Get yourself some candy
